Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa - Wedding Tips

From street food to luxury dining, from floating-markets to mega-malls, and from ancient temples to cutting edge tech and design, Bangkok is a city of contrasts and adventure. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or you’re Bangkok-experienced, our destination guide will help you see the best of Bangkok from the tourist must-do’s to the hidden gems frequented by locals.

Must-See & Do

Two must-visits include the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (the country’s most important Buddhist temple) and Wat Arun (or Temple of Dawn). Appropriately reverent behaviour and attire is expected, while photographs are off limits in some areas, but a glimpse at the large Buddha carved from a block of jade or a lingering sunset view of the spires of Wat Arun make them a must.

Must-Shop

For one of the best experiences the city has to offer, head down to the night markets that Bangkok is oh-so-famous for. With a mix of everything from vintage to quirky and fashion to handcrafts it’s a great place to pick up, well, anything.

Talad Rod Fai Train Night Market

Address: 1 4 Srinagarindra road, Nong Bon, Prawet, Bangkok 10250, Thailand
Operating hours: 5pm to 1am
Distance: 39 minutes from Amara Bangkok

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Address: Damnoen Saduak, Damnoen Saduak District, Ratchaburi 70130, Thailand
Operating hours: 5pm to 1am
Distance: 39 minutes from Amara Bangkok

The floating markets of Thailand is definitely unlike your regular shopping mall; a river ride through Damnoen Saduak is a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. Touristy, yes, but still well-worth a visit. Shop for some fresh produce, or even better, a freshly made local dish.
Another market to check out is the Maeklong Railway Market. You’ve probably seen the pictures (or the amazing videos) off a crowded market moving with military efficiency as a train rolls through the middle of it. Shop for souvenirs and ride the trains for two different and equally exciting perspectives.
*Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Maeklong Railway Market is a distance away from Bangkok’s city centre but many tour operators offer half and full day tours to both places.

Must-Eat & Drink

Bangkok’s famed Yaowarat (Chinatown) is as much a feast for the eyes as a feast for the belly. Endless street-food and sit-down eateries and restaurants with Thai and Chinese dishes of every imaginable variety on offer.

Yaowarat

If you like the idea of street food, but maybe you’re not sure where to start, then Ah Ou Bangrak is the answer. A combination of Thai and Chinese menu options and an all-budget clientele, it’s a favourite for those in the know.

If the weather is hot (or even if it isn’t) you won’t find ice cream that’s tastier or more imaginative anywhere else in Bangkok. Opt for one of their alcohol-based boozy ice cream options for a cocktail-esque melt-in-the-mouth experience.
