Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the "Festival of Reunions", falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. This traditional festival is widely celebrated across Asia, including Singapore and China. This year, it takes place on 13 September.
Traditionally held in conjunction with the worship of the God of Heaven, the Chinese give thanks to the god to show their gratitude for a good harvest. Since the Mid-Autumn festival is about lunar appreciation when the moon is said to be at its brightest and roundest, celebrations go into full swing when the sun goes down.
In Singapore, the festival also a time for family gatherings and reunions. Amara Singapore is a short 10-minute walk away from the prime spot to soak in the jovial bustling festive atmosphere – Chinatown. Once the sun sets, beautiful lanterns displaying the beauty of traditional artistry and craftsmanship illuminate the streets of Chinatown. While the older folks celebrate the occasion with tea and mooncakes (a baked pastry usually filled with sweet lotus paste), the younger children are particularly fond of this festival because they get to play with colourful lanterns and sparklers!
An Amara Touch
In keeping close with the tradition of reunions, Amara Singapore’s Silk Road is offering classic mooncake masterpieces including the Traditional Baked Mooncake with White Lotus Paste, Single or Double Yolk in White Lotus Paste, and our 2019 exclusive flavour – Baked Mooncake with Cempedak Paste. Crazy about Cempedak
What is Cempedak? This rarer breed of exotic fruit is closely related to jackfruit and possesses the taste profile of a cross between banana and pineapple. Cempedak is distantly related to Durian and especially popular in the Southeast Asian region.
Our 2019 signature flavour consists of a classic baked mooncake filled with piquant Cempedak paste and fruit. Perfect for those who prefer a stronger flavour.
This year, we are also proud to launch our limited-edition Cempedak high tea set, exclusively available from 22 July to 13 September 2019 at Amara Singapore’s Tea Room. Each high tea set features an array of Cempedak-flavoured desserts, from crème brulee to swiss rolls, paired with exquisite tea from local tea-specialists, TWG.
